SATs and leveling the admissions playing field

The Conversation had this interesting article about colleges and universities that move to “SAT optional” for admissions. Sadly, the study written about found no increase in enrollments from low-income or other under-represented students at elite schools.

SAT optional will not level playing field. We already have 5 out of 6 academically bright students belonging to the poorest quartile not going to top 140 schools. What would make it level playing is the financial aid in form of grants and tuition waive Otherwise, forget about using “what feels good” measures to address the problem?

Can you repost that link? It’s not showing up properly on my feed, and I’m very interested in what you’ve referenced. Thanks!

Try this: (If that doesn’t work, go to and type “SAT optional” in the search field.)
